About Me

Welcome to my cake decorating page. I decided that I wanted to display the cakes that I make but I didn't want to do it on my family blog. So, I will do it here! After I got married I took a cake decorating class to get out of the house. I got a cake decorating set from my mother-in-law and since then, I have made cakes for my kids' birthdays. I am not a professional and I have a lot to learn! But I enjoy making cakes and my kids like to eat cake. It's a win-win for everyone!

Baby Shower Cake

I made this cake for my friend Melanie's baby shower.
This is my favorite cake that I have made thus far. It was a bit time consuming but was well worth the time spent. I used buttercream frosting and I think it was a half chocolate/half white cake.

Bryan's 11th Birthday Cake

For Bryan's 11th birthday he wanted a knight castle cake. I made a chocolate cake and used buttercream frosting. I also made candy clay which I used for the gray molding and rocks on the bottom and middle of the cake. The knights are the only non-edible pieces on the cake.

(A couple weeks before making this cake I was shopping in Kearney and came across a candy store going out of business. With 1/2 off all the candy, I stocked up on candy rocks, legos and other fun candy that I can use on my cakes.)

Seth and Niki's Wedding Shower Cake

This cake was for Seth and Niki's wedding shower.

I made this cake for some extra special people! (The cake was a double decker half white and half chocolate with buttercream frosting.) I held a wedding shower for Seth and Niki in Dunning on the 4th of July weekend.   Seth was a student manager when Mat was coaching high school wrestling.  We have stayed in touch throughout the years and we couldn't be happier  when he introduced us to his girlfriend a couple years ago. Our kids took an instant liking to  Niki.  Once Seth proposed to Niki, they asked Mattee to be in their wedding.
The wedding was beautiful and I don't know of a more relaxed bride than what Niki was. It was an amazing day. Thanks, Seth and Niki, for letting Mattee be apart of your special day!

Postmaster Retirement Cake

I made this double layer sheet cake using buttercream frosting. (I'm pretty sure it was chocolate and white cake.) I am thinking I should start trying new cake and frosting recipes. However, why change it if it works?

Graduation Cakes

I made these cakes for a couple kids for graduation. I made 5 sheet cakes in all. The other 3 were plain jane and just said congratulations. (I forgot to take pictures.) These last two I had some fun on. I found this great recipe for candy clay.  I can make whatever I want out of it, hence the cowboy hats and rope.  These are chocolate cakes with my normal buttercream frosting. I still need to work on my writing but it's getting better!

Happy Birthday Paizley!

I had so much fun making Paziley's birthday cake. I found a recipe for candy clay that hardens so I can make some 3-D things, like the ears and bow. This is the first time I had worked with it and I LOVE it!  I also covered the top dome with it. The brown is chocolate and the bow is a vanilla flavor. The cake is white and chocolate with buttercream frosting.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Reece wore pajamas to school on his birthday. (It's not because he takes after his mom and can't get out of bed in time to get dressed for school.)  The school was celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday.  Therefore, Reece's class wore pajamas for the day.   I took these Cat in the Hat cupcakes to Reece's class in the afternoon.  I even got to sing "Happy Birthday" to the class with the class.

Reeces 8th birthday cake

So, I failed as a mom. Reece asked for a knights 'castle cake'. My excuse is that I have been running ragged going to all their wrestling meets that I don't have any time to do anything else. And also, another excuse is that I had no ice cream cones to make the towers. For whatever the reason, I will make him one someday soon and surprise him with it.  His second choice was a leprechaun cake. I figured a leprechaun's hat was good enough.  This was a chocolate cake with buttercream frosting. I used one of my most favorite chocolate cake recipes and it turned out so moist and delicious.  (It wasn't from a box, I swear!)

Valentine Cupcakes

I picked up this idea off of Pinterest. All you do is put a glass marble on the outside of a muffin paper, fill up the paper with batter and bake. The cupcake looks like a heart! I didn't do a very good job decorating because I didn't have any help. With all the sickness going through our house I didn't want any of my kids giving anything away to anyone else. The cupcakes will look better the next time I get some help!

Happy Birthday Adam and Con

This is a homemade yellow cake with buttercream frosting. Before I started decorating I googled images of "camo deer cakes". I printed off a pencil sketch of a deer and tried to draw him the best I could with brown frosting after I frosted the cake in ivory. I didn't outline the face very well and the body looks more like a bull than a deer. The cake was good but I still think box cakes are best!
