About Me

Welcome to my cake decorating page. I decided that I wanted to display the cakes that I make but I didn't want to do it on my family blog. So, I will do it here! After I got married I took a cake decorating class to get out of the house. I got a cake decorating set from my mother-in-law and since then, I have made cakes for my kids' birthdays. I am not a professional and I have a lot to learn! But I enjoy making cakes and my kids like to eat cake. It's a win-win for everyone!

MADD/FBLA Auction

I was asked to make some cakes for a silent auction at our high school during a night of basketball games.  The FBLA has an auction every year to raise money for MADD (Mother's Against Drunk Driving).  I was happy to help. I made Sandhills/Thedford cake and a rainbow cake a couple days ago and froze them until I was ready to frost them. I was planning to put an actual knight on the cake but I didn't want to spend that much time on it so I just put the initials.  I also planned to use rainbow frosting on the rainbow cake but had too much to do and not very much time to frost the cake.  (I am putting together a concession stand at the same basketball game for our Blaine County Area Community Foundation.)  I was planning to do all of this with my two cute helpers. However, this morning Caden told me he had already called Adam to go help him feed. Which left me the smallest helper.  But, after cleaning up the kitchen so I could actually work in it, I checked on my little princess and she was sound asleep in a chair.
I can't say that I'm thrilled about the rainbow cake. I have never glazed anything before and I think I put too much on...but it is what it is. If I was thinking, I would have colored the frosting with rainbow colors right before drizzling it over the cake. Maybe next time I will have to try it!

Now that I'm done with the cakes and my princess is up, we'd better get dressed and get on with our day!

John Deere Cake

When my good friend Jenny told me she was having a tractor party for Evan, my "blue eyed beauty", I volunteered to make the cake.  I had made this tractor cake one other time for Caden. It didn't take long to decorate and it was mighty good to eat.
Apparently Evan wanted to have a corn party as well. I thought I'd share a picture of  a fun activitiy the kids got to do.

Jenny is by far a more "FUN" mom than I am. I would have freaked out before the day was over but she was as calm as calm!

Happy Birthday Amy

This cake was so easy to do and it didn't take me much time to decorate it. I used the tip Amy gave me and added blue coloring paste to chocolate frosting to make black.  It was much easier making it this way than to add half the bottle of black paste to white frosting...it tastes better too!

Mattee's 2nd Birthday Cake

Princess Mattee's Castle Cake

The towers are made out of rice crispy treats and upside down sugar cones. The fence on the top of the cake is made from almond bark tinted pink formed in heart shapes.

Caden's 5th Birthday Cake

Probably my most favorite cake that I made was Caden's 5th birthday cake. He wanted a rodeo area on his cake. I melted wilton white candy pieces and piped them out of a plastic bag into the shape of fences. I also did the same with the letters and brands.  The animals, people and tractors were non-edible. However in the future I will have to work on making those type of things out of fondant. I will let you know how that works.

Bryan's 10th Birthday Cake

Since Bryan is older and more opinionated he told me how he wanted to decorate his cake. He also wanted to put the figures on the cake himself.  Definitely not the best cake I've ever made or the prettiest, but he sure was happy with it and thought it was cool. I kind of think it was too!

August 2010 Wedding Shower Cakes

I made these two cakes for a friend of mine who was putting on a wedding shower. The theme was a luau. I decided to decorate one of the cakes traditionally and do the other one fun. I thought of the way I was going to do the beach cake the night before I had to have them ready. I actually decorated it a couple hours before it was suppose to be picked up. Had I allowed more time for it I would have loved to have found small lawn chairs, umbrellas and other beach items. Another idea of mine in the future will be using fondant to make 3D props.  The more traditional two layer cake I used a Wilton Buttercream frosting recipe. I tried to match the colors from the invitation, deep purple and an aqua. (At least that is what my color blind eye saw.) I'm not too happy with the writing. I need much more practice in that area!

Graduation Cakes

Some friends asked if I would make some graduation cakes for their sons. I was happy to do so but was rather stressed a couple days before. Everything went well and the golf cake is one of my favorites.

Rainbow Cake

I made this cake for a bridal shower.  One of my most favorite cakes to make. Also one of the most time consuming!

Reece's 7th Birthday Cake

Reece wanted a raceway themed birthday cake. I took two horseshoe cakes and tried to make it look like a racetrack.  The things in the middle are suppose to be flags. However, someone asked me why I would have put grass in the middle of the track. You win some, you lose some.
